The research group HortiCell develops innovative methods for propagation and breeding of crops and ornamentals. We use tissue culture and molecular techniques to select cells and regenerate entire plants. The envisioned methods are not specifically aimed at producing or generating GMOs, and are preferentially conform the EU legislation regarding the use of GMOs. In addition to in vitro tissue culture and genetic analyses, we use advanced microscopy and cellular analyses.

• You participate in an important research topic of the lab: Development of highly efficient procedures to produce doubled haploids as the starting material for hybrid breeding programs, not only by improving existing protocols, but also by developing procedures for crops where this technology is not yet possible.
• You are involved in growing donor plants, isolating and culturing microspores and monitoring regeneration parameters.
• You are responsible for in vitro tissue culturing of plants including protoplast analysis.
• You contribute to the production and analysis of reporter lines, overexpression lines and genome-edited mutants.
